Week 19 : Reading the Material Gathered/Refocusing the Essay Question
Upon scheming through my reading materials, I had chose to read:
- Chapter 1 & 2 of Television and Psychoanalysis: Psycho-Cultural Perspectives – Caroline Bainbridge, Ivan Ward, and Candida Yates
- Chapter 5 of Visual Methodologies – Gillian Rose

For this week, I began reading Chapter 2 of “-Television and Psychoanalysis” first, mostly due to printing issues in which only this chapter was printed. I like to annotate as I read otherwise the information doesn’t sink in as well.

After finishing this chapter, I wrote down a summary note on what this chapter was trying to convey. I think that the chapter is implying that Television plays a great role in shaping and moulding a person’s conscious and unconscious mind.
Essay questions:
1,) Do filmmakers use psychoanalysis approaches to evoke a reaction and experience from the viewer’s unconsciousness?
Or does films unintentionally mould and shapes our minds?
-How?
Counter arguments: – Is it possible for filmmakers to employ psychoanalysis approaches when each audience would possess individualistic thought and unconsciousness?
Further questions: Does this means that we can intentionally make films as a therapeutic tool for patients?
