Altered States
Week 23: Rendering 3D model/animation + Compositing
Example of the correct file type The initial rendered files
It was difficult communicating and transferring rendered files. The first time, Cordy rendered out the whole scene, and we have a hard time trying to communicate what file I need. Because I know I want an exr files with passes on them that I can separate and edit, but I didn’t know the exact name of the file or how to render it out in Maya. Now I know what it’s called( Multichannel Exr) and cordy had also figure it out with her tutor.
Before that, the second time she tried to render, the file was around 600gb in total!
The new file
Trying to rebuild the CG
Next, when we finally managed to have the right type of file, a lot of the passes were empty and and there weren’t enough passes to edit and hide the building that Cordy modelled in order to create the reflections of the lights.

The script for above
After discussing this issue with both of our tutors (Sam and Billie), we reached this stage where Cordy rendered out the cryptomatte that was not showing in the passes separately so that I can merge in together in Nuke after.
